Royal Wedding Magic

A little late, I know but the past week or so has been hectic.

While Prince William and Kate Middleton made their vows, I was delighted to be performing at a Royal Wedding Celebration in Calcot, Reading.  I’m sure that David Cameron would have been proud to see the community coming together as a ‘big society’ to celebrate.  I left the party in full swing and having received the following email from John Parry, the event organiser, I can only assume it continued all day and late into the evening – Wonderful!

‘Also, I just wanted to say thanks again.  I think you did an excellent job and went down a storm.  In the club in the evening people were saying how good you were.’ (more…)

Birthday Party Magician

Over the past few weeks I’ve had great fun entertaining as a birthday party magician at some 40th birthday parties.  Sorry, did I say 40th?  I meant 21st!

This fun sequence of shots was taken last week at Melanie J’s party at the Coppid Beech Hotel, Binfield, Berkshire.

Many happy returns, Mel!

Happy Birthday also to: Paul F in Ascot, Ashley C in Woodley and Jennifer R in Crowthorne who have all celebrated their special birthdays recently.

If you would like to know more about the type of magic I can offer at your birthday party or special event then please contact me.

Thanks For Adding a Bit of Extra Magic…

It is always extremely satisfying to leave an event, be that performing as a Wedding Magician, Mix and Mingle Magician, Party Magician or Table Magic, with the sincere thanks and appreciation of the client and their guests.  Even more of an ego boost is receiving further thanks in writing.  Here are some quotes from emails and letters I have recently received performing as a comedy magician at various events:

‘Everyone had a great time at the masked ball on Saturday night and I would like to thank you for your part in making the evening such a success.  All the people I have spoken to thought you were a great entertainer and absolutely loved the magic.’ Susanna S

‘Dan, all we want to say is…You were totally spot on, hilarious, entertaining and PERFECT!  Thanks a million.  Until next time…’ Heather and John

‘Thank you so much for Friday night, the evening was a huge success.  The caberet was great; I don’t think North Hants Golf Club has heard so much laughter for a long time.  The close up magic was amazing and finished the evening perfectly.  On behalf of the members who attended, I thank you for such a wonderful evening.’ Heather B Chair Social Committee North Hants Golf Club

‘I wanted to say a massive thank you for coming to Paul’s surprise 40th birthday party at Stirrups last weekend.  He had a brilliant party, and we had a great evening.  We’ve had lots of people get in touch this week and everyone has said how much they enjoyed your magic.  Paul is still talking about the trick where you had the card in your mouth!’ Emma F

If I can help to make your Masked Ball, Anniversary Celebration, Club Members’ Social Event or Surprise Birthday Party that little bit more magical with Close Up Magic, Mix and Mingle, Table Magic or Caberet then please do not hesitate to Contact me.

Magic Photos!

I have recently had the pleasure of working with Stephen Wright, photographer to The Smiths as well as other musicians and theatre stars.  Have a look at this fun selection of shots taken. His task was to capture my personality.  I think he succeeded!

Member of the Magic Circle

Magic Circle Magician in BerkshireI spent Monday evening at The Magic Circle Headquarters in London watching the Magic Circle Close-Up Magician of the Year competition.  It was an fanatastic evening with some truly amazing magic.  The magicians participating have undoubtedly been perfecting their craft with years of dedicated practise and it paid off.

Each performance offered something different in terms of technique, magical manipulation and showmanship.  And the winner, contemporary magician John van der Put, was captivating to watch.  An inspiring evening!

Of course you can also book me as your magician for your event, be that a corporate event, wedding, or a private party, just contact me

Home Counties Wedding Magician

Warbrook House in Eversley, HampshireJune through to September is typically prime wedding season but I have recently entertained at some stunning venues across the Home Counties, ideal for winter weddings:  Taplow House, Wokefield Park and Sunningdale Park in Berkshire; Tylney Hall and The New Mill at Eversley in Hampshire; Great Fosters, Egham, Surrey and The Compleat Angler, Marlow, Buckinghamshire.  Each venue offers the indoor space and versatility for the close-up magician to perform both table magic and mix and mingle.

However my favourite venue is Warbrook House in Eversley, Hampshire.  I have performed at several seasonal weddings there over the years and also chose to get married there myself in December 2004.

Many congratulations to all those couples whose winter weddings I entertained at from October 2010 to February 2011. If you are planning a Winter Wedding, please feel free to contact me to discuss how I can help

Magicians: Helping to Raise Funds for The Prince’s Trust

On Saturday evening, friend and colleague Robert Bone and I were hired by CSC Business Solutions to entertain at their fund-raising gala event in aid of The Prince’s Trust.  Fellow Magician Ravi Mayar also joined the team due to the huge number of guests supporting the event held at Ascot Racecourse.

Jonathan Cordwell, one of the event organisers from CSC, sent the following email to Robert:

Thank you very much for working your magic on the night, it was great, Dan attended our table and we certainly had some dropped jaws to say the least. The evening was an overwhelming success with an incredible £60,000 pledged to The Prince’s Trust so it did indeed exceed all expectations and I’d like to thank yourself, Dan and Ravi for playing an important part in it’s success.

Magic at Christmas: Book Early!

The new school year has started and the vast majority of people have returned to work after the summer break.  As always, September arrives and the phone rings frequently with enquiries for Christmas availability.  As my busiest time of year, approximately half of my December bookings are made 12 months in advance, which is always very pleasing but obviously leaves limited choice for those Autumn callers.  Christmas bookings are typically one-off corporate events, private parties and this year I am delighted to be resident magician at a local golf club: Bearwood Lakes in Sindlesham, Nr. Wokingham, Berkshire.  I look forward to sharing my Christmas magic with you through festive photographs later on in the year.

MMC: Member of the Magic Circle

As a member of the Magic Circle it would be nice to believe that my life is full of the excitement, drama and wonder described by Rowling and Tolkien.  Unfortunately the worlds of Hobbits and Quidditch remain firmly in fantasy writing – as far as I know…

Nonetheless, the Magic Circle is a community where magicians can meet up and share their talents and wealth of expertise in order to keep the ‘real’ world of magic alive, thriving and ever evolving.

The Magic Circle was founded in 1905 when a group of amateur and professional magicians met together with the intention of forming a magic club.  At this time stage magic was incredibly popular with the theatre-going public and magicians worried that idle chat may lead to the risk of exposing trade secrets.  An exclusive society was needed and so The Magic Circle was founded.

Its purpose built Headquarters, which opened in 1998, welcome magicians every Monday for an organised show, lecture or other event.  As you walk along Stephenson Way in Euston you would be forgiven for not realising that behind one of the doorways lays a world of magic of illusion.  Beyond the entrance to our unassuming building is a spectacular helical staircase, a library which holds the first book on conjuring in the English language, Scott’s “Discoverie of Witchcraft” and a museum displaying treasures and magical memorabilia.  Also within its walls is The Devant Room, which showcases magical apparatus of the past and is named after David Devant, considered the greatest magician of his era and first ever President of the Circle.

Perhaps in hindsight my magical life is filled with a little wonder and excitement after all.

Are You a Full-time Magician?

I am often asked this question and usually respond with a simple Yes and, if encouraged, a subsequent explanation about how I came to be a Professional Full-time Comedy-Magician and member of The Magic Circle.

The brief version is as follows:

My apprenticeship was working for Haven Holidays as part of the Entertainments team for 5 years, followed by a further 5 years in various corporate sales guises for three IT companies.  I then returned to entertainment and started working for myself as a full-time magician and entertainer 9 years ago.
