Whilst updating my Linked-In profile a few moments ago I was delighted to read the following recommendation posted by former client, Simon Burgess:
“I have known Dan for many years, but hired him this year as a magician. He really knows how to ‘work’ a room at a function. Great magic and quick witted. Whether a professional or personal event he can only help to bring the room alive. Great fun and great magic.”
Should you wish to come and see me perform, I am resident Magician at Bearwood Lakes Golf Club over the Christmas period. To book a table, please contact the venue directly.
If you are planning a christmas party, or indeed any type of social event, please consider me when you’re doing your party planning, and lets discuss those party planning ideas
I have been rather preoccupied of late…
On 12th September my wife gave birth to a second beautiful baby son, Edward. With a 20 month old and a 2 month old, life in the Hudson household has been incredibly busy; yet in between nappy changes and midnight feeds (yes, I get up, too), I have managed to squeeze in a few adult and family magic shows to earn some much needed pennies to pay for my rapidly growing family. Following are a few “thank yous” from some of those bookings:
“We have used Dan now on several occasions, most recently at a 40th birthday party. Dan Hudson Magic is mesmerizing. The tricks are amazing and simply magic! Dan is hilarious to be around, charming and very witty and he always lights up a crowd!” Melanie Duggan – Husband’s 40th Birthday Party October 2011
“It was a great night – thank you! Everyone was talking about you so all good! I’m still trying to figure out how my signed card got in the envelope!!” Lindsey Hawkins – Husband’s Surprise 40th Birthday Party October 2011
“The day was a huge success; we could not have asked for better. Your magic and caberet were a perfect addition and were greatly appreciated. Keep October 2021 free in your diary for our 60th!” Paul Reevey – 50th Anniversary Party October 2011
“This is the second year we have used you for our graduate training dinner and as last year, it was brilliant and funny. I am still amazed and confused as to how you made a ring disappear and reappear on car keys…right next to me. Everyone was talking about your magic into the evening, along with the standing ovation you received. We look forward to seeing you again next year.” Krupa Shah – Price Waterhouse Coopers’ Graduate Training Dinner November 2011
Many thanks to all those who take the time to express their thanks and while I absolutely love amazing people with card tricks and the like, nothing quite compares to this…
…now that really is Magic!!
“The Yattendon Estate in Berkshire is the amalgamation of several smaller estates acquired by the first Lord Iliffe between 1925 and 1940. In 1955, Yattendon Estate was formed to hold the land and run the in-hand farms. Yattendon Farms was amalgamated with the Estates company in 1975 and on 1st January 2003, the entire business became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yattendon Group. Today, it represents a total of nearly 3,629 hectares divided between in-hand farms, let farms, woodlands, Christmas tree areas, let small holdings and grazings.” Yattendeon Estates Website: Yattendon.co.uk
Over the summer I was very pleased to entertain families who live and work on the estate at a family fun evening arranged by the Estate Manager. I was also very pleased to receive the following testimonial:
” Dan Hudson / Fred in the Shed provided a very enjoyable and highly entertaining evening at our annual staff party. The family party had an age range from 3 to 70 years old and Dan’s range of tricks and magic kept everyone amused all evening. I would highly recommend him.

I am often asked questions about how I became interested in magic and whether I enjoyed it as a child. I particularly remember watching Wayne Dobson perform on television in the late eighties and nineties. You may recall his first appearance on the 1989 Royal Variety Show when he had the audience in fits of laughter with his hilarious routine assisted by Frank Bruno and Harry Carpenter. Combining ventriloquism alongside magic grabbed my attention. As a budding entertainer myself, I found the mild irreverence highly amusing. (more…)
I had great fun last Saturday afternoon entertaining for the Shearing family at their wedding reception held at Old Luxters Barn in Oxfordshire. It is a stunning venue and I was delighted to be invited by the bride to perform magic as a surprise for her new husband and their children. I have met all the family several times over the years performing both close-up and children’s magic for them.
Vicki very kindly sent this thank you email at the beginning of the week: (more…)
On a recent visit to The Magic Circle Headquarters in London, I had the huge priviledge of hearing International Man of Mystery: Magician/Hypnotist/Mentalist, David Berglas speak about his life in magic. Thought of as one of the world’s leading mentalists and one of the first magicians to appear on British television, I was captivated as he shared wonderful stories about his lifetime in magic. These varied tales included anecdotes of performances for Winston Churchill to The Rolling Stones and acting as Creative Consultant on numerous major films; working with legendary directors, including: Tim Burton, George Lucas and Stanley Kubrick. However, as a huge James Bond fan, I am most in awe of his involvement in five of the movies. After enthralling his audience with these amzing stories, David then took questions. Afterwards he joined his fellow magicians for a drink in The Magic Circle bar.
I was delighted to be asked to perform an hour of close-up magic for Dan and Jo at their home in Earley, Bershire. The weather was certainly on their side and guests were able to mingle in the garden, enjoying the late Spring sunshine.
Dan was kind enough to email the following message and sequence of photographs:
“Thank you for giving us such a great start to our special evening. Your brilliant magic skills and your ability to connect so quickly and so well with the party goers was a real recipe for success. All the guests were amazed by your magic and also commented on your wit, sense of fun, and excellent banter that made a real difference . The environment that you created for us made sure that the rest of the evening was a resounding success. I will be recommending you as often as possible.” Dan Ingwell
Recently I performed 90 minutes of Close-up magic and a 30 minute Caberet show at a 50th birthday party in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. The fancy dress event was a great deal of fun and I was delighted to receive the following testimonial and fun sequence of photographs from the birthday girl’s husband:
“We hired Dan for my wife’s 50th fancy dress birthday party and he did not let us down. Not only was his magic stunning, but he is a really nice bloke; and just seemed to fit in with the party perfectly. Thanks Dan, you really helped the evening become something special.” Andrew Spratley
This week I spent a day at Leamington Spa Day of Magic where it was good to catch up with fellow full-time professional magicians, sharing ideas and generally having fun!
I squeezed in on this photograph of fellow magician and friend Rob Bone and ‘Penn and Teller: Fool Us’ magician, Mark Shortland.
A couple of weekends ago I was invited to perform close-up magic at a Spring Ball. St Paul’s Junior School PTA booked Sandmartin’s Golf Club in Wokingham for their fund-raising gala. It is always a pleasure to be invited to such events as I know how proactively and tirelessly PTAs work to raise funds for their schools. PTA members and guests alike share an interest in the success of such events as they know that in the end funds raised will directly benefit their children, ensuring a great atmosphere and fun time is had by all. I am happy to say that I received the following email of thanks from one of the event organisers:
“Thank you so much for coming to our Ball on Friday evening. I just wanted to let you know that we have had brilliant feedback, and everybody’s highlight of the evening was YOU! The only negative comment was that you weren’t there long enough. Thanks again. Karen G.”
I have a few more school PTA fund-raising events throughout June and July to look forward to. If your School, PTA or Business is hosting an Autum/Winter Gala or Ball and you would like to know about the variety of close-up magic, mix and mingle magic, table magic and caberet magic I can perform, please do not hesitate to contact me.
